Then and now, your journey on JWD

when you compare the way you feel now as members of this forum with how you felt on your early days here what sort of thoughts and feelings come up?

what was your journey here like?

for me i have gone a long way, when i came here i loathed typing long posts, and hardly knew how to go about forums i was basically a forum virgin.

Even though I'd been out of the WTS and online for a few years and had most of my hostility vented, there was still a lot to vent when I first came to JWD, so I showed my hiney a LOT. I've settled down gradually over the past few years and don't show my hiney near as much. I've also tried to clean up my act, because I realize that it isn't "pretty" to those who come here still drenched in WTS dogma.

Now I just relax and try to have a little fun, even if the topic's serious, though not so much fun as to get everyone's panties in a knot. I guess overall I'd say I'm gettin' there. Still get tunnel vision once in a while, but don't get my Irish up near as much as I used to.

I knew one... who was a nice guy...or at least I never had any run ins with him.
He was 30, his wife was late 60's and he would VACCUUMM the leaves from his front lawn and trim the grass with scissors. and they had way toomany cats fro normal people...liked 40 some odd cats.
and he is on the hospital liasion comittee

Well, thank gawd he wasn't "Nurse Ratchett" when I was in the hospital. He sounds totally weird, Loosie! LOL!

i notice so many of you have pictures by your posts - how do you do that?

i really like them and it's interesting to see how the name fits or doesn't fit the picture.

if i knew how to do it, i'd put up a picture for me, too.. i wonder if any of you have favorite websites you would share?

Hi, Hortensia!

To put a picture (avatar) by your poster name, first look at the upper lefthand corner of this screen. Under your poster name, there's a hyperlink to your "Profile." Click on it. The window that will open allows you to edit your JWD forum profile. After the gender designation, there's a place to add a picture. If you already have an avatar (or picture) picked out, just click on the "Browse" button next to the "Upload a picture from my computer" toolbar. If not, you can troll Google images with the term "avatar" or if you think you might like a certain type of avatar like perhaps "super hero avatar" or "bunny avatar" (just examples) put those words in the Google images tool bar and surf 'em till you find what you want. Then save it to your windows "My pictures." Then when you click on the "Browse" button on your profile, you can go directly to your "My Pictures and upload the picture to your JWD files and use it for your avatar here.

If this is unclear in any way, please let us know.

i've been re-thinking about what to say when jw's come knockin'.

i've thought about what the scriptures say about jesus' words to the pharisees and think perhaps i might say, "i don't have any interest in the doctrines and writings of the scribes and pharisees of the wts.".

or maybe i could just say, "yall're just wts nazis and you look down on everyone else as if they were jews during wwii, so i'd prefer not to converse with you.".

Well, my God is bringing a paradise that's better than yours, but he is saving everyone. My God rejects being rejected. No one can reject him because his love will not allow it. In the end, his love and grace will draw back all creatures to him. Good will so completely conquer evil that no trace of it will be left and there truly will be no death. No one will be dead. Not human beings, not angels. No dead beings anywhere. All creatures covered by God's love, his goodness and his all encompassing grace. All that and a superior paradise, too.
Now tell me, why would I want to serve your blood thirsty, petty, exclusive God?

I know someone who did and the jdubs scurried away like cockroaches when the Lights come on.

LOL, Honesty! Well....that's what usually happens when you turn on a bright light for 'em. That's why I lurv that song, "On Broadway."

"They say the NEON lights are bright on BROAD way..." Cause the WTS only has the appearance of having "true light."

Why waste your breath? I just say, I know you keep a do not call list. Please put me on that list and never call at this house again. Then I say, have a nice day, and gently close the door. I've only had to do it a couple of times in 15 years, even though I know the JWs are very active in our town.

Well, Hortensia....I'm all for savin' somebody's hiney if there's a chance it can be saved. Many practicin' jdubyas deserve a tiny bit of light thrown on their darkness to begin to see their way to an exodus from the WTS. Ya never know where one of those bright seeds may fall.

After all, he's been gone for a few days and had a lot of other shtuff on his mind. This, too, shall pass. I'm sure he wants to make amends. Especially with that fandangtastic BBQ grill you got for him, sweetie!

I have accepted Jesus sa my Lord and personal Savior. He has forgiven me of all my sins.
I have His spirit living in me as John 14 and Romans 8 says. His spirit guides me, teaches me and disciplinbes me.
I have God's Word to use as a guide along with the Holy Spirit which lives in me.
Can your group enhance or add anything to what Jesus has already given me?

Have you tried this one on any jdubyas yet, Honesty? I'll be interested to know what their response is.

Why don't you just handle it the Christian way and say I am not interested. Don't be mean and hateful, just tell them to go away and not to come back. Is that so hard?

Cause that's not the way that Jesus handled the scribes and Pharisees in his day and these people (yep, I WAS one) represent modern-day scribes and pharisees. Gee, Agapa, do you think Jesus should have been more tactful? He was rather "in their face" with all the "whitewashed graves and hypocrites" talk, dontchya think? Agapa, you just need to get some good ol' Southern grits to get chapped, chere.

I had just that experience a week ago. Came out to my car to get some supplies and three Pioneer™ sisters all converged on me like vultures on fresh meat I hardly had a chance. When I was sure by seeing the Asleep! rag I simply told the one talking I wasn't interested in anything they had to say. I was prepared to say more but she cut it short and said "have a nice day" and turned and went across the street!
Whew!
I see no reason to bring up anything with them it's crazy making and I've got better things to do with my time these days, I've had enough of my precious time eaten up by that cult, no more for me!

Kate, you did the very best thing under the circumstances. After all, they caught you off guard, chere. I've got more time on my hands than Carter has peanuts, so I think it'll be interesting to hear what other's have thought about saying when jdubyas come a-knockin'.

OK, first, invite them in. Insist. Don't let them back down or talk you out of it. Then, when they're huddling in a bunch by the door, point to other side of the room and tell them that's where you want them to set up.
They'll of course look at you with surprise and ask you what you're talking about.
Pretend to get a little irritated and say, "Look, you guys are the most expensive strippers I've ever seen. If I didn't have twenty-five horny men coming here in a half hour, I'd tell you to hit the road. Now just get your stuff set up so we can get this underway."
Now, I could be wrong, but I'm guessing you won't have much of a jw problem anymore...

(snicker/snort) Abandoned, you debil, you! I'm sure that'd be a show-stopper! LOL!

My favorite is "is God going to kill me if I don't join your religion?" Very blunt and perhaps a bit immature on my part, but in my view many JW's go d2d year after year preaching their "lifesaving message" without ever fully acknowledging in real world terms just how violent their worldview is towards humans whose synapses don't fire in the same patterns as their's do in regards to abstractions such as "God", "kingdom", "truth", etc.

DantheMan, I really like that it's very to the point and certainly hits the nail on the head, however bludgeoning it may be. LOL! I guess I'm more "Southern Belle" in my methodology. I like to slide up on 'em, smilin', and slip a shiv in their self-righteousness.
